Diplomatic relations between the Principality of Andorra and the Sovereign Order of Malta were established on 16th June 2025.

Andorra is the largest of Europe’s small states, while the Sovereign Order of Malta is the smallest. In addition to sharing ancient ties and identity, both entities share a firm commitment to building a world of democracy, freedom, peace, and prosperity.

The diplomatic relations allowed the Principality and the Sovereign Order to exponentially increase their development cooperation by developing joint initiatives, particularly in North African countries and in emergency areas such as Gaza and Ukraine.

The Order of Malta and Andorra, by addressing together global challenges, are convinced that their historic ties can be projected into the present for a solid and collaboration on the international scene, strengthening their role as actors in the international community, particularly in terms of peace, cooperation, and solidarity.

Both countries are also convinced that neutrality and independence of humanitarian aid, which must be offered without distinction. Collaboration makes more efficient, meaningful and stronger their commitment in the field of international development cooperation and humanitarian aid, to contribute effectively and in a coordinated way to the well-being of the most vulnerable populations.

On 14th January 2025, H.E. the Grand Commander paid an official visit to the Principality for the inauguration in Encamp of the exhibition 900 years in the field, serving the neediest, with the support of Fundació Sant Romà, on international cooperation, in the venue of the Ministry of Culture, with a brief meeting with H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra and H.E. the Minister of Culture of Andorra.

On 15th February 2025, H.E. the Grand Chancellor had a brief meeting with H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra at occasion of the Munich Security Conference.

On 6th August 2025, the Council of Ministers of the Principality approved the granting of the
Agrément in favour of H.E. Sergio Rodriguez López-Ros in his capacity as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Principality of Andorra.

On 14 February 2026, H.E. the Grand Chancellor and H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra signed the Cooperation Agreement in Munich.
